About the author

Ken Burnett has been a fundraiser since 1977, when he joined the international development charity ActionAid as UK director. In 1983 he founded Burnett Associates Limited, an advertising, marketing and communications agency specialising in social marketing with a particular focus on donor recruitment and development. Burnett Associates worked with fundraising organisations in Britain, Europe and around the world, producing some of the most original, donor-focused and effective communications campaigns to be found anywhere.

He is currently chairman of the board of the communications and marketing agency the Cascaid Group. Until September 2003 he was chairman of the board of trustees of ActionAid, one of the UK’s top 20 non-profit organisations. He is now an independent member of the board of the new ActionAid International and a council member of BookAid International. He is a former vice-chair of the Institute of Charity Fundraising Managers and he served for seven years on the board of the International Fund Raising Group (now The Resource Alliance). He is a fellow of the Institute of Fundraising and an honorary fellow of the Institute of Direct Marketing.

Ken Burnett is author of several textbooks on fundraising communication including the worldwide best seller Relationship Fundraising, its sequel Friends for Life: Relationship Fundraising in Practice, Tiny Essentials of an Effective Volunteer Board, The Zen of Fundraising and How to Produce Inspiring Annual Reports, written jointly with Karin Weatherup and published in association with Burnett Works Limited.
